Half a century after a woman's remains were found in Connecticut, DNA testing finally identified her as Linda Sue Childers from Louisville, Kentucky.

The case dates back to 1970 when two victims were discovered in a wooded area, with one being the previously unknown woman.

Despite years of investigation, her identity remained a mystery until genetic testing connected her to her sister in Kentucky.

The breakthrough came in July 2022 when remaining DNA samples were tested, leading to the discovery of her daughter and confirmation of her identity.

Connecticut State Police have closed dozens of cold cases since their unit was formed in 1998.

Authorities in northern Illinois recovered a 1966 Chevrolet Impala from the Pecatonica River, potentially solving a decades-old cold case involving the disappearance of two men, Clarence Owens, and Everette Hawley, in 1976.

The car, detected by fishermen's sonar equipment, was found near where the men were last seen.

Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana expressed confidence in the connection between the car and the cold case.

While the sheriff did not confirm if remains were discovered, the county coroner's office was present at the scene.

The men were last seen attending a farm auction in the area before vanishing, with suspicions of foul play.
