A double murder-suicide in Goose Creek, South Carolina, resulted in the deaths of a mother and her 15-year-old son.

The incident took place at a home on Water Oak Drive around 9:43 p.m. on Saturday when police received a call about a man with a gun.

The suspect, identified as Nicholas Hegwein, was intoxicated and reportedly holding hostages at gunpoint.

When officers arrived, they found the mother, Tracy McEvoy, and her son, William Allen McEvoy Jr., deceased with gunshot wounds.

The investigation has revealed that the crime was domestic in nature and is ongoing.

Jesse Milton Alvarez allegedly started online searches right after an Instagram post announced his ex-girlfriend's engagement.

Within hours, he found the new man's home address and looked up how to hire a hitman in San Diego.

The searches continued with phrases like "how to shoot someone in self-defense" and "how to kill your ex's fiancee." He is now on trial for the murder of Mario Fierro, a teacher at Cathedral Catholic High School.

The prosecution claims Alvarez planned an ambush on Fierro, while the defense argues it was self-defense.

Gembara, the ex-girlfriend, testified about Alvarez's obsessive behavior leading up to the killing.
