New evidence has emerged in the case of infamous plane hijacker D.B. Cooper, bringing investigators one step closer to uncovering his identity.

Eric Ulis, an expert in investigating historical crimes, discovered a microscopic metal fragment on Cooper's tie that has led him to a theory about the hijacker's identity.

Cooper gained notoriety in 1971 for hijacking a commercial jet and extorting $200,000 before parachuting away.

Ulis used modern technology to analyze the fragment and traced it back to a Pennsylvania plant called Crucible Steel, which supplied titanium and stainless steel to Boeing.

Based on his findings, Ulis believes a titanium research engineer named Vince Peterson, who worked at Crucible Steel and died in 2002, could be Cooper.

However, further investigation is needed to solidify these findings.
