The family of pregnant woman Destinee Thompson, mistakenly killed by police in Arvada, Colorado, has reached a $2 million settlement with the city.

Thompson, a mother of three, was shot as she tried to drive away from officers who surrounded her car.

The lawsuit filed by the family was settled in July.

The shooting occurred as officers were searching for a Latina suspect who had brandished a knife while stealing from a Target store.

Thompson, who was not the suspect, was leaving a motel when officers approached her.

Despite no imminent threat, an officer fatally shot her and her unborn child.

District Attorney declined to press charges.

A man in Washington, D.C. is recovering in the hospital after protecting his girlfriend from a carjacker by acting as a human shield.

The couple was approached by someone demanding their vehicle and was shot multiple times as they tried to escape.

The man shielded his girlfriend and sustained serious injuries, including a punctured lung.

The woman also suffered gunshot wounds and underwent surgery.

Despite the incident, no arrests have been made as of Wednesday night, and the case remains under investigation.

The couple's condition has not changed.
