The coroner's office has identified the body pulled from the Susquehanna River in 1998 as James Gibson, who was reported missing in February of that year.

The body, initially labeled as John Doe, was found by a fisherman in the Turkey Point area of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Despite significant postmortem changes making the man unrecognizable, dental and genetic testing confirmed his identity as Gibson.

His cause of death was determined to be drowning.

The case remained unsolved until 2024 when DNA testing matched him to the missing person from Harrisburg.
