28-year-old Alexus Nelson has been sentenced to 84 years in prison for the 2023 murder of her 5-year-old daughter, Maha Li Hobbs.

Nelson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, tampering with a deceased body, and attempting to influence a public servant.

The child's charred remains were found in Nelson's apartment after a welfare check was requested by her mother, who had not seen the child in weeks.

Despite claiming to have put her child up for adoption, authorities found the child's remains in the apartment.

Nelson's guilty plea means she cannot appeal in the future.

Officials stated she had other options besides murder.

Casandra Hult was arraigned for first-degree reckless homicide in connection with her husband's 2020 death.

Jose Santiago was found dead with gunshot wounds after a jogger noticed a suspicious car outside a cemetery.

Hult initially claimed she left the car at 10 a.m., but a McDonald's receipt placed her at the scene at 12:29 p.m.

Forensic testing linked Hult to the cup found in the car, contradicting her statement.

She allegedly confessed to two witnesses and left the state after the murder.

Hult's attorney has not commented, and her plea is unknown.
